The TomTom ONE, 3rd edition is a very slim and sleek-looking device that is designed to be ultra-portable. The touch-screen has been enhanced so that the display is much sharper and one can view more easily the different maps or routes, driving instructions or other related information such as speed or mileage. In addition, this edition comes preloaded with detailed maps for all the streets in the United States and Canada.

One of the most striking features of the TomTom ONE, 3rd edition is the clarity with which it provides detailed instructions on how to proceed from one turn to another which allows you to concentrate entirely on your driving. You do not have to stick with the same voice that starts off with the device by default, you can choose from various celebrity voices as well. An excellent touch to this feature is the ability for the device to adjust its volume depending on the speed on the vehicle. This is based on the principle that when the speed of the vehicle increases, the engine becomes louder and the device increases its volume. As the vehicle slows down, the engine becomes quieter and the device automatically turns the volume down. You can thus be assured of being able to hear the driving instructions clearly and loudly enough, at all times.

TomTom HOME is free software provided by TomTom so that users can personalize their devices by downloading the kind of character voices they want or download additional maps and points of interest. They can also download the latest software and services from the HOME website. With the help of its revolutionary MapShare technology, TomTom allows you to make corrections in the maps on your device and upload the updated maps to the TomTom database through the HOME website. You can also download similarly updated maps from the TomTom HOME website so that the maps on your device stay up-to-date.

The TomTom ONE, 3rd edition is very similar in looks to the other two TomTom ONE models. Plus most of the navigational features remain the same. There are some improvements in the usability features, the most noteworthy one being the ‘Help Me’ feature that you can use when you are in an emergency. When you select this button, you will have options like ‘Phone to Help’ which will give you a list of emergency numbers, ‘Drive to Help’ which gives you a list of nearby emergency locations like hospitals and police stations as also a ‘First Aid Guide’. The TomTom MapShare technology makes it’s appearance in this edition and with an option of using a traffic receiver to receive real-time traffic information the TomTom ONE, 3rd edition provides a complete navigation solution.
