The TomTom GO 930 series combine the most advanced technologies that the TomTom team has managed to come up, with an ultra-sleek look and enhanced usability. The TomTom GO 930T is at the very high end of this series and comes equipped with a traffic receiver (which comes with a one year free subscription to traffic updates) to present a truly powerful GPS device.

TomTom has been focusing on using its massive user community and their participation, to help improve its own navigational tools. The very first thing they did was to introduce a feature called Map Share which allows you to make changes in the maps on your device based on what you actually come across on the ground. This information can be in the form of new streets, changed street names or just changed street directions. This feature has been tremendously appreciated by all TomTom users who have contributed heavily in this effort. If you download a map from the TomTom database, you can be certain that it is probably one of the most accurate maps that is available anywhere.

Taking the power of this community participation even further, TomTom notes down the routes you have taken on which days and the average speed you were traveling at, while you are uploading your changed map information. All this information is anonymous but gives TomTom vast route and speed data that it can use to improve its navigational tools. It has done so by fitting in a new feature called IQ Routes in the GO 930T. Traditionally, all GPS devices calculate a route and estimate your driving time based on the speed limit along the roads you have to take. However, in reality, the actual speeds that can be maintained on the road are very different. IQ Routes use the historical speed of the road from its data and calculates the trip as well as the time needed to reach your destination, far more accurately. In fact, it is estimated that the data in the IQ Routes database is growing at the rate of half-a- billion measurements per day adding more and more accuracy to the routes and driving time calculated.

The TomTom GO 930T also provides Advanced Lane Guidance using which you can know exactly which lane you need to take at your next turning. As you approach any complex intersection, you will get a three-dimensional image on your screen, with the lane you are supposed to take well indicated. This helps you to relax and concentrate on your driving no matter how complex the intersection or how heavy the traffic.

One of the main differences between the TomTom GO 730 and the TomTom GO 930 is the application of ‘Enhanced Positioning Technology’ in the GO 930. This uses special gravity and movement sensors to track the position of the vehicle when you lose contact with the satellite in areas like tunnels or with tall buildings. The GO 930 also provides maps of all of North America and Europe while the GO 730 only contains maps of North America.
