Features

Have you ever noticed the interruption in your GPS signals when you go through densely packed areas like say when you are driving in areas with tall buildings? Since in these surroundings, your device is not able to establish a direct line-of-sight connection with the GPS satellite, it loses contact with the satellite. You then have to make the best of the situation till you come to an area where the signals can be restored. The TomTom GO 920T now uses a new technology called Enhanced Positioning Technology in which special movement and gravity sensors are employed to tell the driver’ position so that the device can continue to help you navigate, even in the absence of GPS signals.

The most frequently requested feature that all drivers, even seasoned ones wanted for their GPS devices was the ability to take voice instructions. The GO 920T does exactly that. You can now just speak to the GO 920T and give it the address you would like to go to. You just have to speak into the device and give details like the city, street name and address or even an intersection and the device will immediately come up with a route for your travel. This is particularly helpful when you are driving and have to make changes en route in your travel plan. There is no need to pull over, enter your new destination and start all over again. Just speak to the GO 920T and inform it of the changes and it will take care of the rest.

The MapShare technology is again one of TomTom’s innovative technologies that give you, the user, the power to improve its navigational tools. While you are traveling, if you come across streets which are closed or whose names have changed, you can make the same changes instantaneously in the maps on your GO 920T. Moreover, using TomTom’s software you can upload these changes into a common database that TomTom maintains so that other users can benefit from the updated information. So if you are in the habit of downloading the latest maps from the TomTom website, you can be sure that these maps are absolutely up-to-date.

Both the TomTom GO 920 and TomTom GO 920T come preloaded with maps of the countries in North America but in addition maps of about 41 countries in Western and Central Europe. This makes the TomTom GO 920 and GO 920T one of the truly Trans-Atlantic devices in the market. While almost all other features in both these devices are the same including integrated Bluetooth technology and an FM transmitter, the GO 920T is the only one that comes with an in-built traffic receiver.
